Estudiantes of Mexico lost to Peruvian side Juan Aurich as the Mexicans' chances of Copa Libertadores take a hit.

Estudiantes' hopes of qualifying for Copa Libertadores were dealt a blow Wednesday night as the club fell in Peru.

Luis Tejada scored both goals as Juan Aurich of Chiclayo beat Estudiantes 2-0. The result puts pressure on Estudiantes ahead of the return leg in Zapopan on Feb. 3. Estudiantes need at least a victory by the same scoreline to have a chance of advancing to the group stage of the tournament.

The first tally for the hosts came just 10 minutes in. Robert Guizasola sent a well-placed cross into the center of the box. The ball split a pair of Estudiantes defenders and Tejada leapt and easily knocked a header into the back of the net for the first goal of the series.

In the 59th minute, Juan Carlos la Rosa helped Tejada score the second goal. From the centerline, la Rosa hit a perfect ball over the top of Estudiantes' defense and into Tejada's path. The Panamanian international controlled the ball near the top of the area, took one touch and slipped the ball between Mario Rodriguez's legs and into the back of the net.

The goals were all the hosts needed to put Estudiantes away.

Estudiantes need a 2-0 win to force penalties in the return leg. Only a victory by at least three goals sends the Mexicans through.
